How does Tim Butcher emphasise the problems and possible dangers faced on his journey during this passage Free Essays

There are numerous manners by which Tim Butcher underlines peril during this entry; he does this through his language and through utilizing different methods, for example, utilizing triplets. One case of peril is at the very beginning of the section (base of page 59) and this is the place we see the principal utilization of a triplet †utilizing this method underscores exactly how hazardous the Congo can be: â€Å"Thoughts of death, corrosive showers and eviscerated bodies† This triplet is utilized to show the conceivable, merciless methods of confronting passing in the Congo †the way that these are Butchers contemplations suggest that he is agonizing over confronting his demise thusly, its frightfulness is something nobody needs to encounter. Butcher additionally utilizes a collective impact with this rundown of three as the following circumstance seems, by all accounts, to be more awful than the past. We will compose a custom exposition test on How does Tim Butcher underscore the issues and potential perils looked on his excursion during this entry? or then again any comparable point just for you Request Now Despite this, these three horrendous models are murders which are unmistakably arranged and they show no regard for the dead. A death is generally a deliberate demonstration focused on explicit subject. With respect to the next two, corrosive showers and dissected bodies appear to be two different ways of concealing proof and disposing of a body. Neither of these three demonstrations are mishaps; every one of them are deliberate and done intentionally. Following on from this sentence, he specifies that the rundown of three were the main dull pictures at the forefront of his thoughts. By saying that they weren’t the main pictures shows that there are numerous different circumstances he could be confronted with, the entirety of a similar sort. The word ‘dark’ passes on how negative every one of his considerations are as it has meanings enjoyed with is, for example, demise and brutality. As of now from this first section in the entry, we can perceive how much potential risk Tim Butcher could be confronted with. Another manner by which Tim Butcher presents peril is by utilizing a tale of a companion who approached passing at precisely the same air terminal he is at now †this causes the likely threat towards Butcher to appear to be higher. The way that his companion approached passing at a similar spot as him shows exactly how high the possibility of him additionally confronting demise is. What truly puts more accentuation on how hazardous the region is when Butcher notices his companion covers universal emergency. This shows he will have encountered numerous kinds of issues in his past †yet none as awful as the Congo. Tim Butcher during this section shows most of risk and issues through his decision of phrasing and emotive language. During the account, he specifies that troops faithful to Mobuto were getting progressively frantic and were wanting to get away. Desperate’ shows how much soldiers needed to escape from the intensity of Mobuto and the expression ‘hoping to escape’ makes us feel that the soldiers know getting away might be hard or even incomprehensible, yet they despite everything attempt. The Congo is clearly a risky spot particularly for Journalists, as writers are suspected to be Spies †Congolese individuals have no an ideal opportunity to waste and judge this rapidly, we can tell this as Butcher reveals to us his companion was Seized. Being held onto shows that a capture was abrupt and there was no wavering in doing it. It seems to be compelling and all of a sudden. In the wake of being seized, writers are additionally stripped at Gunpoint †this shows a feeling of peril as stripping somebody to their underwear is prompt mortification and shows defenselessness. Being held at gunpoint implies that his companion was confronting demise, however to exacerbate things, the watchmen had him along these lines for a few alarming hours. We can see here that the experience was being drawn out more than seven hours; this makes the circumstance tenser for the casualty as they could be taken shots at any moment †this is the thing that makes it so unnerving. This area of the entry in a split second discloses to us that the Congolese individuals are eager to kill. Not long after this it is referenced that it took long stretches of urgent arguing to persuade the watchmen they were just columnists. Urgent arguing shows how honest the writers are as they probably am aware having tapes gave the Congolese individuals an inappropriate impression. By the utilization of the word persuading, it suggests that the gatekeepers weren’t trusting them and truly accepted they were spies. Tim Butcher has again utilized the possibility of the circumstance being drawn out over an extensive stretch of time to accentuate how genuine it was. By referencing they were ‘simply journalists’ it shows how severe the gatekeepers are in the Congo; it more likely than not been clear that the guests were simply columnists and the Congolese individuals should realize they get guests however they take things excessively far. During this entry, there is another case of weakness being appeared; this happens when an Asian woman lands into the air terminal and has her baggage removed her and she needs to sell for it to offered back to her. Sample details Pages: 10 Words: 3141 Downloads: 5 Date added: 2017/06/26 Category Business Essay Type Argumentative essay Level High school Did you like this example? Transportation Freight System Introduction There has been a high problem that faces the transportation sector and there is the need for the introduction of means that will solve these problems. One of the most used means is the freight transportation system and therefore the need for the survey that will lead to the linking of this communication gaps and have the provision of facts and figures so that the solution on the carriers and the shippers can give in direct connection to bring the intended solutions. There is need to attract the customers in the transport system and this is done through establishment of the programs like the wonderful transportation system ltd that was established in the year 1997 and its main aim was to offer the professional and global logistics solutions for the customers through the establishment of a well overseas network that was targeted at covering more than 200 cities in the whole world. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Business Essays Transportation Freight System" essay for you Create order The opinions are based on the core value where by the staff has to be trained on the ways that are best to lead to the work been done as expected and therefore the manager of the organization should be a person who is very much persistent and thoughtful meaning that the solutions that are required to attract the customers is taken with a lot of concern. (Blattberg, 1980) There is the airfreight market where by although the prices are more when compared to the shipping there is the belief that the air transport has got a high space for the development this is because they have the knowledge on what the customers requires and therefore this will lead to the targeted services that will be important and of benefit to the customers. The program care for the large sellers that is in the flow of supply meaning that they ensure that no delays will have to be experienced and this is due to the fact that they have the best ways that will have to cover these sellers from experiencing d elays of their goods. With the wonderful transportation ltd then it has many vessels for the air transport that is very costly but with the calculation of these costs then the seller at the end gets profit that is expected. The competition has been in raise with the profit becoming low but the airfreight industry is believed to have high profits this is due to the fact that the international companies have a high profit that results from the perfect management system. The wonderful transportation ltd makes use of the new technology that will lead to the expected attraction of the customers like for example they make use of the Internet and with this they have very powerful network system and many branches this means that they care a lot for the customers. (Bhaskaran, 1997) Therefore there is the encouragement of the small freight forwarding companies to know the changes that take place in the market and make use of the Internet that will help them in lowering the costs with th e desired services that will lead to high customer attraction. The wonderful transportation ltd is responsible for the damages of the goods and the losses and this is managed through solving the problem immediately it occurs this is done so that they can create value for the customers with the professional services. This gives an assurance to the people that they can use this means of transport, as they have to be covered and therefore there is insurance that is given to ensure that the accidents are minimized all the time, as there is no assurance of lack of accidents. The future plans for the wonderful transportation ltd is to ensure that it offers the services internationally. This can be achieved through the integration of information and the supply chain management so that they can have the betterment of the transportation of the customers and the sellers. There has been problem in getting the cargo trucks that can be used for the supply of the finished goods. This is bec ause of the high risks and the costs that are associated with a chosen method of transport. The combination of these problems led to the repair parts supplies been drained and it took time for the supply chain to become effective and lead to the expected performance. There are more operational problems that result from the logistics processes but they have to get the means that could lead to the desired delivery of services to the people. The combination of the lower levels of on hand supplies that is the distribution problems and the limited visibility of the income supplies lead to the high risks that could be faced by the army and this is due to the fact that the services that are required for the army to offer the required services is interfered with by the risks that are expected to occur. The problems from the potential operational effects are dealt with in the right manner through management, the creative adaptations and the resolutions that could lead to the provision of services as required. For a nation to have the enhancement and the promotion of the strategic plans that are based on the movement of the goods and freight at the domestic and international gateways, the partnership centers has four outcome goals that will lead to the nationsrsquo; economic growth and high productivity. (Berry, 1997) 1) Outcome goal It is to have the assurance that there is the adequate through put and the intermodal capacity both to the ports and the freight facilities. The investment strategy that is done in this is to have the partnership with the local, state and the private agencies, the port authorities and the intermodal services providers so that they can improve the network capacity through the use of the advanced technologies that would lead to the increase in gate throughput, the cargo and the clearance time for the container and also it is involved in the enhancement of the navigation efficiency and clear information in the ports and in that intermodal facilities. This investment strategy has the involvement of the cost sharing of the automated communications systems that is responsible for the utilization and the cargo handling capacities, provision of the information that is based on the real time for the vehicle and the cargo location and the improvement of the overall transportation systems. The areas that are targeted are the computerized systems that is responsible for the loading and the fleet management, the expedited cargo distribution that would reduce the times that the cargo would take and the use of the gate that is automated for easier inspections that would reduce the cases of delays and importance of the equipment utilization and the installation of the warning systems at the grade crossings. The capacity and the throughput improvements are mainly for the improvements of the infrastructure that is based on the solutions to remove the access to the bottlenecks and this is done through the regional planning and the incorporation of the technologies, the provision of the infrastructure that is modern and having the solutions to the institutional problems. With the use of the advanced freight technologies then there has been the expansion of the constrained intermodal terminals and the freight infrastructure so that the safety is enhanced in the navigatio n ands to the trucking. The improvement of the capacity that has led to the reduction in the costs and high speed for ensuring that the products are not delayed. There is the designing of many software systems that improve the equipment utilization through the reduction of the empty trucks and the train movements. There is also the real time management of system that is concerned with the assurance that the shippers and the carriers make the deliveries that are predictable this means that no delays are experienced as the concerned people know what they are supposed to do for the benefit that is expected to lead to the desired distribution for the sales to be attained. In the creation of the end-to-end visibility of the movement of the cargo the technologies lead to the improvement of the fleet utilization and the reduction of the transit times and the costs of operations through the optimization of the number of loads that are to be made in every vehicle. In the communication there is the use of the means that will keep the people informed of the changes that are expected and there is the radio frequency identification devices and other technologies that provide the real time information, the in transit visibility, the vehicle and the cargo identification and the location and the shipment movement. All these types of new technologies of communication are important in ensuring that the links that have to be followed are undertaken without delays as the concerned people know about the real time that is expected so that the products do not have to delay. This means that with the provision of the real time then there is the assurance that the time that is required has to be reached at that set time and therefore the operations of these trains and ships will be as expected leading to the sales that are required. In the use of the positive train control technologies then it involves the application of the digital data communications, the automatic positi oning, the trackside interface units and the detectors that are specific for the maintenance and the control of the rail operations. (Beamon, 1995) This PTC will lead to the reduction of the collisions between the trains and the maintenance of the cases of the over speeds accidents. There is also the improvement of the efficiency in the rail operations through the reduction of the train running time and increment of the running time reliability and the increment in the track capacity and improvement in the asset utilization. In the maintenance of the accurate, the timely information about the train locations the PTC system leads to the improvement in the railroad service reliability with high potential of revenue and the reduced costs that result from this improved asset management. The information that is received from these systems is of importance because it leads to the targeted improvement that will lead to the sales that are expected. In the case of the marine applica tions of the advanced technologies then there is the navigation system for the dockside and the waterways management which include the charts and the short range navigational aids which gives the guidance that is expected so that the marine transport is not interrupted by any of the risks that are expected to result in the times when the operations are in progress. There vessel traffic systems which is an interactive and the shore based waterways management and the communication systems that helps in the determination of the presence of the vessels in and around the ports and provide the information to the vessels such as the matters related to the traffic tides, the weather and the port emergencies and this will have the assurance that the transport for the customers is safe and the communication is done through the radio and other medias that can lead to the information been clear and reach the person at the rich time so that the delays that can result can be reduced. (Baganha, 1999) Outcome goal It is made to ensure that there is advancement in the multi modal terminals. Where by the investment strategy has to have the partnership with the state and local agencies and the private carriers to have the investment in the multi beneficiary and the intermodal terminals and the freight corridors through the use of the mechanisms that are for the cost sharing and the use of the resources. In the private and the local agencies then they are provided with the information that will lead to meeting the needs of the large scale and the highly complex automated freight facilities and this has to be done through the cost sharing and the public- private relation. The investment in the advanced freight terminals and the multi beneficiary facilities lead to the generation of the economies of scale that is achieved through the cargo leading large volumes of products on a single facility and with the reduction in the costs and the benefits that are required for the users and the public. In the creation of the more efficient freight system then these advanced freight terminals leads to the reduction in the shipment and the inventory holding costs and the improvement in the service quality and the reliability. With the use of information and the positioning systems that are of the desired standards then the advanced freight terminals can be able to involve the global chain so that the products have the reach the required group at the right time with limited costs and that means should be of the desired quality. The advanced technologies has been in the allowance of the long-haul freight corridors that is a more efficient freight modes and has the reduction in the costs and the gain in the market through the breaking of the distance for competition in the short-haul corridors. (Bassok, 1997) The advanced intermodal terminals has the improvement of the equipment and the labor productivity with also the changes been made in the terminal capacity which will lead to the reduction in the delays due to the fact that the gate inspections and the manual inventory have to be done so that there is the minimization of the number of handoffs and the equipment interchanges that is involved in the container movement and this reduces the operation costs. With better terminal management then there is improvement in the equipment utilization and the container turns through the reduction of the distance of the rail yard dwell times and this leads to increase in the productivity and greater profits based on the productivity that is high. The real time supply chain management systems has the involvement of the integration of the cargo movement that has the inclusion of the innovative financial mechanisms and the advanced intermodal terminal technologies has the link between the global supply chain and the domestic transportation. With the globalization and the services in the industry the information has got a high share to the total freight operation s. Therefore the information is vital and the basic requirement that should be considered so that the information that will suit the specific carriages can be achieved leading to reduction in delays and reduced costs. (Anupindi, 1994) 3) Outcome goal This is mainly to ensure that in the next generations then there is need for the freight technologies the investment strategies will be based on the diffusion of marine, rail and the use of the defense technologies that is done through the training so that the technologies can be made readily available for the users and there is the need to have the identification on the economy and the measure of the costs and the benefits that are expected with the integration of the real time freight transportation systems and the supply chains. This advanced freight technologies has got the enhancement in the freight transportation capacity and the efficiency that is based in ensuring that the technologies generate the benefits that will result from the freight transfer. The technologies lead to the generation of greater value added and the attraction of more research and development funding that the best ways can be achieved and used. For the research and development to lead to high benefit s in the future generations then there is need for the provision of high returns to the factors of production, there is the need to have the provision of the external benefits in the form of income gains and other parts in the economy and the need for high productivity then throe will be high profits that will result from the use of this advanced technologies. 4) Outcome goal This has got to ensure that the standards and the information sharing and the joint use of facilities have to be maintained. The investment strategy is to have the provision of the federal leadership to have the development of the standards for the technology applications and the removal of the institutional barriers to the joint use of the defense technologies and therefore their is need for the formulation of the strategies that will arrive at the global optimization of the freight network. The strategy has got to ensure that the institutional barriers are removed so that there is more efficient use of resources. With the technology intensive nature of the military freight facilities the joint users has to offer the cost cutting opportunities with the net benefits to the economy through the diffusion of the defense technologies. The regulatory oversight of the use of communication systems and the standards for the technology applications then there will be promotion of the gre ater market penetration of the advanced technologies. The federal leadership and the interagency has the assurance that there is stable, liable and the efficient freight that will lead to the expected productivity leading to high sales and high profits been reached. The most required technologies are the shared information systems, which include the commercial vehicle information systems and networks and other systems that will lead to the appropriate target that is to reach the high productivity. (Alderson, 1990) Conclusion The freight information system is very important this is because it helps the country get to the targeted production as there will be no delays and therefore the production will reach the consumers at the right time. Therefore the information that is targeted is to be communicated and should reach the concerned group clearly without delays so that the changes that have to be made should be undertaken at the right time. The information and the network systems should ensure that there is the attraction of the customers and the supply chain management has to be done in the right time for better results that will lead to high production with reduced costs. Canterbury Tales Interpretive Essay Example For Students

Canterbury Tales Interpretive Essay The Evil Side of Human Nature Geoffrey Chaucers Canterbury Tales became one of the first ever works that began to approach the standards of modern literature. It was probably one of the first books to offer the readers entertainment, and not just another set of boring morals. However, the morals, cleverly disguised, are present in almost every story. Besides, the book offers the descriptions of the most common aspects of the human nature. The books points out both the good and the bad qualities of the people, however, the most obvious descriptions are those of the sinful flaws of humans, such as greed and lust. One of the peoples traits affected by human nature in many stories is greed. As shown throughout, greed is an evil sin. This is especially obvious in the Pardoners Tale, where the Pardoner, a church-appointed official who collects gold for absolving people their sins, tells about the evils of money. In the story, three friends, who wanted to make the world better by killing death, find gold, and unwilling to share, start planning to kill each other. Two friends sent the third to bring them food and wanted to kill him after he came back. The victim, however, also wanted the money, and poisoned their drinks. As a result, all three friends die. Thus were these two homicides finished,/ and the false poisoner too. (Chaucer 365). Even though Chaucers conclusions are not expressed and actually are very different from what the Pardoner says, Chaucer manages to convey his message to the audience. In the Reeves Tale, greed and envy caused two young students and the Miller to trick and steal from each other. This Miller has done me great mischief, and I will not leave without first finding his daughter (The Reeve). In the end, the students sleep with the Millers wife and daughter, and the Miller ends up beaten and losing many of his possessions, but the story doesnt justify the students, the stealing, or even the greed itself. Chaucer leaves it up to the readers to make their own conclusions. The Canterbury Tales also present a number of shockingly bizarre for their time descriptions of lust and adultery. In a lot of stories old men in their sixties are shown having young wives, which was probably common in Chaucers times. In one example, from the Merchants tale, old January, unwilling to die single, decides to marry, but demands that his wife must be younger than twenty. Later in the story, Januarys young wife cheats on him in a tree after he had gone blind. He cast two eyes up to the tree,/ and saw that Damian had managed his wife/ in such a way as may not be expressed/ unless I would speak discourteously. (Chaucer 293). In the example from the Wife of Bath, lusty human nature led one of the kings knights to raping a girl. It happened that he saw a maiden/ walking before him, alone as she was born./ And from this maiden then, against her will,/ and by pure force, he took her maidenhood. (Chaucer 223). Again, even though neither the knight, January, nor his wife May suffered any serious consequences in the end, and everything turned out almost fine for all three of them, Chaucer clearly shows how grossly inappropriate their actions were, and the moral of each of the stories can be easily understood by the readers. The traits depicted as the most affected by human nature in The Canterbury Tales are sometimes most easily found in anybody, which is why the readers may actually recognize themselves in some of the characters. Such technique let the readers relate to the characters and probably contributed to the books immense popularity over the centuries that passed since .

Nobody Goes Through Life without a Scar free essay sample

â€Å"Want to see a cool trick?† my fourteen year old brother, Jeff asked, swinging a plastic coated metal broomstick in the air. â€Å"I can be just like a Ninja. Just watch.† â€Å"Okay!†, I exclaimed, sitting down on the hardwood floor across from him expecting some kind of spectacular show to take place. He started spinning the broom in the air between his fingers. Then he switched the broom from his left hand to his right hand and started twirling it behind his back. I giggled and clapped in amazement at my big brother’s tricks. Impressed by my amusement, Jeff smiled and started spinning the broom a little faster and began walking around the room and parading around me in a circle. Before I knew it, the tip of the broom hit me in the face and I fell back onto the floor and began crying. My brother looked at me strangely as I wept on the floor and then looked at the broom to see that the plastic cap on top of the broom was missing and that it was nothing but a razor sharp edge on top. We will write a custom essay sample on Nobody Goes Through Life without a Scar or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page He dropped the broom and quickly came to my side. â€Å"I am so sorry! Are you okay? You won’t tell Mom will you?† he asked, frantically, as I continued to sob. I shook my head and raised my eyes. My brother gasped and looked at me with widened eyes. I looked at the ground in shock to see a little puddle of blood slowly seeping into the cracks in the floor. I felt a stinging pain by my eye that continued to throb and ache. I lifted my hand and touched the source of the pain to feel warm blood trickling along side the right portion of my face from my eyebrow. I had never seen so much blood before. Warm tears came to my eyes again as blood continued to flow down my cheek. â€Å"Please don’t cry! I am sorry†, he said, as he tried to cover my mouth before I cried. â€Å"I’ll let you play Sonic on my Sega Genesis all you want.† he offered. I shook my head and pushed him away. At that moment I heard the jingle of my mom’s house keys and the creak of the front door open. Voices quickly filled the air as she and my dad began a conversation. At that moment, Jeff ran off to find a place to hide because he knew he would be punished for what he had done. I continued to sit on the floor and weep as the blood mixed in with my tears. I picked myself up and slowly made my way into the hallway and down the stairs to the area where my mom and dad were talking. M-mommy, I stuttered, standing in the middle of the stairs. She turned and looked at me in horror. With her motherly instincts she picked me up off the few remaining steps and pulled me close to her as her eyes followed the gash in my eyebrow to the drops of blood on my shirt. What happened to you? Who did this to you? she asked me in Creole, choking on her words. J-Jeff I stuttered as I pointed to the stairs indicating that he was somewhere in the house hiding. She frowned. She pulled out a handful of tissues and tried cleaning up the blood, but no matter how many times she wiped it, the wound continued to bleed. She decided to take me to the doctor. We left Jeff at home alone because he wouldnt come out from wherever he was hiding; my mom and dad had no time to look for him. Upon arriving at the doctors, they rushed me into the examination room and examined me and bandaged my wound with a gauze pad that was glued on so my eyebrow would heal in the next few days. I never had such a terrifying doctor visit before. Arriving back at home, my brother was scolded for doing something so childish and quickly apologized to me and I took up his offer to play his video games for the next few days. The next day at school I expected my friends and classmates to make fun of me but to my surprise they were all concerned about what happened and wanted to know my story. I never had a story to tell before so I decided to share it. I never talked so openly before about something so personal that happened to me. That day, I might have walked around feeling a little embarrassed about wearing a huge pad on my face, but I wore it with a smile and pride. After a few days, the bandages were removed. I examined my face in the mirror and noticed a thin scar. The hair in my eyebrow on that scar line never regrew. Through the years, I have continued to explain the story behind my scar to whoever I meet. I am reminded of the accident that I went through because of something Carol Brunett once said, Nobody goes through life without a scar. I look in the mirror and admire my thin scar because it reminds me of how much people care about me. Through my story, I was able to open myself up a bit more to the people around me and break out of my shyness into the outgoing person I am today. I realized how fortunate I am to have a family that can help me when I need it. Not many children and teens a kind and loving family like I do. Even when you think that something terrible has happened, it can have a great outcome. Every scar has a story; and my scar is one of the many things that make me who I am.

Assessing Risk In Social Work Social Work Essay Essay Example

Assessing Risk In Social Work Social Work Essay Essay Example Assessing Risk In Social Work Social Work Essay Essay Assessing Risk In Social Work Social Work Essay Essay Hazard can be described as a hazard, or a chance/likelihood of a loss or a peculiar event to happen ( Collins, 2012 ) , which can look as a great uncertainness in relation to societal work when step ining in people s lives. Over the old ages this has been more formalistic by statistical chance and structured appraisal tools to steer professionals. Hazard across the continuum of societal work can be placed into two general classs, those hazards that people pose to themselves or others and those hazards which people are exposed to ( Kemshall, 2007 ) . Hazard taking and direction demands to be balanced between the uncertainness of unneeded injury and dangers that worker and service user may be exposed to. The right to protection and the right to take hazards necessitate to be exhaustively addressed and considered, this in its ain right will foreground many ethical quandary. Intervention must be justified ; on the other manus society has a responsibility to guarantee kids are non expose d to opprobrious state of affairss. Pull offing hazard should be an chance to besides seek or increase positive results, non merely to avoid danger but to cut down the odds against it ( Calder, 2008 Care Council of Wales, 2002, 4, Corby, 2001 ) . There appears to be no definite account of hazard or hazard appraisal in societal work and whether it refers to merely negative or harmful results, the balance of good against bad results or whether it even includes the possibility of positive events ( Calder, 2008 ) . Hazard appears to go around around the construct of danger and possible injury and is non merely related to service users but professional and organizational pattern. Measuring hazard requires intervention in household life and the professional demands to be painstaking of how this is managed in respects to how they engage with service users ( Calder, 2008, CCW, 2002, 1-3 ) . The two chief principals of the Children Act, 1989 are to protect kids from important injury and to guarantee and advance their long term public assistance. The Children Act 1989 introduced the construct of important injury as a threshold for statutory organic structures to step in in household life, advancing the best involvements of the kid. Local Governments have a responsibility to guarantee that kids and immature people are protected from important injury and to safeguard and advance the public assistance of the kid that may necessitate aid and back up beyond that of normal mainstream services ( Scie, 2005 ) . Measuring and safeguarding kids from important injury is a major function in societal work but it can be hard to measure hazard to a high grade of truth as factors are mostly cumulative and research has shown that it can be hard to expect long term results ( Calder, 2008, Scie, 2005 ) . Risk is besides dependent on the state of affairs ; one definition does non suit all ( Scie, 2005, p21 ) . Corby, ( 1996 ) suggested that there are three facets to put on the line appraisal in kid protection. These are preventive, fact-finding and continuance hazard appraisal ( Coulshed A ; Orme, 2006, Kenshall A ; Pritchard, 2001 ) . Preventive hazard appraisal is considered before any engagement by bureaus takes topographic point and may act upon the determination whether to step in or non. Preventive hazard appraisal is based on declarative factors which inform opinions ( grounds based pattern ) ( Coulshed A ; Orme, 2006, Webb, 2006 ) . Early work by Browne A ; Saqi ( 1998 ) cited in Kenshall A ; Pritchard ( 2001 ) gave indexs of prognostic factors, for illustration: history of household force, history of mental unwellness, drug or intoxicant maltreatment, parent abused or neglected as a kid and research on these affairs will be used assess the likely cause or result or act upon the manner in which the professional intervenes. A unfavorable judgment of this manner of working is th at it can take away from the professional liberty in determination devising. Social workers should be cognizant and inform themselves of available grounds as good pattern but should be able balance this in each single state of affairs ( Coulshed A ; Orme, 2006, Kenshall A ; Pritchard, 2001 ) . This manner of pattern can foreground ethical issues for the worker by agencies of know aparting people because of past events or by factors that are out of their control, the danger is that non-abusers could be identified as maltreaters. Social workers may besides step in when there is no grounds of maltreatment which can be seen as intrusive and demonstrates the importance of equilibrating rights and duties ( Coulshed A ; Orme, 2006 CCW, 2002, Webb, 2006 ) . Fact-finding hazard appraisal can besides be known as an initial appraisal and is normally brought to the attending of societal services sections by person who has expressed concerns, this possibly another professional or a member of the populace. These are normally dealt by working collaboratively with other bureaus in peculiar to child protection and will about ever involve the Police, G.P/Health Visitor and instruction. The societal worker will be required to utilize the Framework for Assessment which provides a systematic manner of recording and analyzing information about the kid and its household. The worker would besides mention to the All Wales Child Protection Procedures ( WAG, 2008 ) when there are concerns sing kid protection. Troubles can originate when working in a multi-agency partnership as each bureau may hold their ain docket or outlooks of results. This can be apparent when working in instances where domestic force is present and the designation of the hazard that t he kids are perchance being exposed to being emotional and physical injury. The Police may be of the sentiment that the kids should be removed from the state of affairs instantly but the societal worker may experience that it is better to work with the female parent and perchance the father/partner in deciding the issues but besides guaranting the safety of all concerned. This may be done as a kid in demand or child protection depending on the badness of the maltreatment. Again this demonstrates the complex undertaking by societal workers of equilibrating the hazard against the rights of those involved. Social workers have the responsibility to see the rights of those involved for illustration the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child ( UNCRC, 1989 ) Article 19, provinces that a kid has the right to protection from maltreatment and disregard. Besides Article 8 of The Human Rights Act 1998 states the right to esteem for household life ( Coulshed A ; Orme, 2006, Cree A ; Wallace, 2005 ) . Continuance hazard appraisal may be considered during long term intercessions whereby for illustration a kid possibly returning to the attention of their parents after a period of separation due to put on the line concerns. Where identifiable hazard has been discovered appraisals need to be made at regular intervals with the focal point being on hazard decrease instead than hazard riddance ( Corby, 1996, Coulshed A ; Orme, 2006 ) . Continuation hazard appraisal is about equilibrating the hazards of intercession against non-intervention. Evaluation of the original concerns need to be considered and alterations that have occurred acknowledged. The societal worker will so hold to measure whether the alterations made have had a positive or negative influence on the state of affairs or made no difference at all ( Coulshed A ; Orme, 2006 ) . In measuring hazard societal workers need to see how power and cognition can act upon determinations that are made. Professionals have the power to take action to protect others, have the entree and cognition of resources on offer and the cognition of theories which may construe behavior and label persons. Using these to label or pigeonhole an person is in itself an maltreatment of power ( Coulshed A ; Orme, 2006 ) . Today policy promotes the demand for practicians to be sensitive and informed of the diverseness of people s background, taking into consideration their race, civilization and beliefs. A holistic appraisal of a household should include this as criterion and it is of import to recognize the different attacks and life styles and this should reflect the types of intercession that can be provided for multi-cultural communities ( Coulshed A ; Orme, 2006, CCW, 2002 1.6, Milner A ; OBryne, 2009, ) .

Physic (Medical Imaging & Laser Surgery) Coursework

Physic (Medical Imaging & Laser Surgery) - Coursework Example The wavelength reduces with the increase of absorbed energy (Zettili, 2009). The wavelength for visible light is in the range of 750nm-400nm. X-rays wavelength is in the range of 10nm upward. The wavelength of x-rays is extremely short as compared to the wavelength of visible light. The order of absorbency for x rays from the most absorbent to the least absorbent for the following materials is as follows: copper, glass, wood and air while the order of absorbency for visible light is as following: air, wood glass and lastly copper. From the list it can deduced that the order of absorbency of X rays is exactly vice versa to that of visible light for the mention materials (Kusky and Cullen, 2009). When the produced x-ray is passed through the body, some part of the energy is absorbed by the body during the rest pass. The opposite side of the body is a plate containing a film that detects the X- rays and captures the attenuated x-rays. As x-ray emerges from the body, it contains an image in the form of variation in exposure across the image area. Variations are as a result of different rate of attenuation of x ray by the object. The plate is sprayed with powder that adheres to the charged areas hence electrostatic charge is formed. The heavily charged areas produce more detailed information as powder gathers more quickly in those areas. X rays are more attenuated by denser material than light material; therefore bones will attenuate more rays than fats and muscles. From the above picture, the bones are clearly seen (denser material) while muscles, blood and fats cannot distinctly be seen. Shadings show them. The CT scanner uses x-rays that are emitted in a fan shape to produce 3D images of objects. It has rotating gantry with x-ray tube mounted on it and arc shaped detector. When the x-ray beam is aligned by collimator and emitted, the rotating frame spins the tube and detector by 360 degrees

Female Dominance Or Male Failure? :: essays research papers

Female Dominance or Male Failure?   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  James Thurber illustrates the male species' status with respect to, â€Å" Courtship Through The Ages† with a humorous and melancholic tone. He emphasizes the lack of success males experience through courtship rituals and the constant rejection we endure. Our determination of courting the female with all our â€Å" love displays† may be pointless as it is evident in the repetitive failures of courtship by all male creatures. Thurber shares his problems with courtship and the role which men portray, he explores the relationship between nature and culture, and the demands culture places on men. Thurber's frustration with the female species is obvious and is reflected throughout his essay. The extremities males endure to obtain female attention become overwhelming and incomprehensible to Thurber, consequently conflicting with the myth and construction of the ideal of masculinity. Thurber's frustrations with women are evident right from the start. He displaces male insubordination to the blueprint of nature and it's â€Å"complicated musical comedy.† (Rosengarten and Flick, 340) It's interesting that he attributes nature as a female creator and thus justifying the relationship that â€Å" none of the females of any species she created cared very much for the males.† (p 340)   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Thurber compares the similarities of courtship to the complicated works of Encyclopedia Brittanica. A book which is full of wonders and within lies mysteries of the unknown and unpredictable. In comparison to the Encyclopedia Brittanica the female is alike in many ways, such as its perfect construction and orderly appearance seeming as if they replicate one another like a clone. I believe Thurber views all female species as being similar to one another with respect to their character.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The author also associates courtship as a business, a show business. A world which is chaotic, disorderly and full of confusion much like nature. It is an aggressive competition between genders in which mother nature dominates. He also attributes the similarity of constructed rules and regulations in need of much guidance with the help of a hand manual. Culture also places demands on males. Males who are lacking in outer appearance and sexual appeal try to diminish their faults by acquiring gifts â€Å"to win her attention... and bring her candy, flowers, and the furs of animals† (p 340) for the lady in courting. Women's refusals became men's burden which laid heavily on their shoulders in the social relationship. â€Å"These 'love displays' were being constantly turned down, insulted, or thrown out of the house.† (p 340) This produced the evident exhaustion of the male species such as the â€Å" fiddler crab who had been standing on tip-toe for eight or ten hours waving a

How Boys Become Men

How Boys Become Men The article â€Å"How Boys Become Men† written by Jon Katz, gives a positive statement on how boys still haven’t change and are still growing up the same. Jon Katz, shares with us while walking his dog one day, he saw a boy get beaten by a group of older boys. While walking towards him, Katz asked if he was okay; the boy said yes and begun to swing like nothing happened. I believe that what Jon Katz states is true, because the fact is; boys are always going to think they’re the Alpha Male in every situation. For example: who can climb the highest Rock, who can make a bigger splash in the pool or who can maybe get a girlfriend first. From experience when hanging out with my brother and his guy friends, they always end up trying to compete against each other. In my opinion I think it’s funny the things they make each other do. One day we were all going as a family to hike at Great Falls, and my brother decided to bring his three closes guy friends, Mark, Anthony and Oscar. As we all began to hike the path, before you knew it the boys were all ready starting to race to the top. There was another time my friend Kevin and I, went to swim in Lake Anna and he challenged me to jump from the highest rock into the water. As I finished jumping, I saw him already preparing to jump in as well. When he got out of the water, I saw that his foot had minor cuts and asked him if he was okay. He brushed off what I said, and said, â€Å"let’s go again! † Lastly, boys always tend to be strong and not let others know they’re hurting. This is what happened to my older brother as fell off his bike and hurt his knee, when he was ten years old. Another example were boys decide to be the â€Å"Alpha Males†, could be at the pool with their friends.Last summer my friend Ashley and her boyfriend decided to meet my friend Alex and I at the pool. Ashley’s boyfriend John, and my close friend Alex hit it of from th e start. I saw that John did something that Alex, in my opinion never had done before. Alex did the trick, that John dared him to do with out hesitating and hit his leg really hard, (by looks of it) on the corncrake. Momentarily, they began swimming and Alex ignored the bump on his leg. Boys in my opinion never want to show they are not up for a challenge. Every time my brother’s friends come over, they always began playing around and see who is the strongest out of all of them.Or from what I see, they could also began to lift certain objects and see who can throw them the farthest. Lastly, it’s not all about the who can be the better rock climber or who is the strongest, but maybe who can capture a girls heart first. I have seen this many times from boys who have lost friendships over the same girl they liked, only because they both wanted to be with her. Sadly, only one gets the girl. This is were things get really hectic, and boys sometimes become foes, instead of f riends. Boys often get very competitive if they both want the same girl, just like my brother did with his ex best friend, Joey. Also they never want to admit they lost, sometimes they simply say they didn’t try hard enough. In conclusion, yes, boys want to be that strong, fearless, awesome guy that they have been taught mostly by, their parents or society. But just as Jon Katz says, they want love and understanding when things do not go right for them. Which is very similar how girls are as well. Boys just tend not to show it, because of the pride they have or what they have gone through in their childhood. To sum it all up, boys are always going to be the same, but as they grow up they will learn how to deal with their insecurities in life.
